2025 NFL Midseason Quarterback Rankings
Anybody that follows football knows that quarterback is the most talked about position in all of sports. The intrigue and debate surrounding the position includes proven stars, rookies, and everything in between. The position is constantly being evaluated and critiqued. Everyone pretends to be a “Monday Morning Quarterback” and they all undervalue how difficult playing quarterback in the National Football League is. We are lucky to get to watch football in an era filled with such talented quarterbacks. To be fair, the talent doesn’t always translate directly on the field. Nonetheless, it provides endless topics for debate and storylines to follow. I don’t want to spoil the list before it begins, so let’s get started.
1. Patrick Mahomes
Season Stats: 10 Games, 2,625 yards, 18 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 64.5% comp%
Previous Ranking: 1
There are going to be some complaints about Mr. Kermit the Frog retaining the top spot of our QB rankings. While I agree the gap has been closed by some of his counterparts, there is no quarterback I am taking over Patrick Mahomes. We are either marveling at his skills or having our dreams crushed by Mahomes for nearly a decade now. So I’m not going to bore anyone with facts we already know about him. The Chiefs signal caller operates Andy Reid’s system masterfully and is the NFL reincarnation of Houdini. While we may never see a return to the 5k and 50 touchdown seasons we saw at the beginning of his career, I expect his efficiency to improve as he continues to find a groove with young receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy. We saw the 3x Super Bowl champion look dominant with Kelce and Hill early in his career, so if he can build a similar connection with these new weapons the rest of us are in trouble. When all is said and done, there is no reason to think Patrick Mahomes is going to experience any decline and he is still the quarterback I want anytime the game is on the line.
2. Josh Allen
Season Stats: 10 Games, 2,456 yards, 18 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 69.6% comp%
Previous Ranking: 3
Allen is one of the young quarterbacks in the NFL closing the gap on Patrick Mahomes. Josh Allen is a NFL tight end that just happens to have a rocket strapped to his right arm. Over the past few seasons I’ve been impressed with Allen’s ability to reduce his turnovers while continuing to take aggressive shots down the field. Allen has gradually become more efficient as a passer but refuses to lose the dynamic playmaking ability that turned him into a star. Is the 2025 version of Josh Allen the most exciting? No, but that’s another sign of Allen maturing. The Bills also have an underwhelming group of receivers that Allen carries each and every week. Watching the Bills, you see how much Josh understands the skills and weaknesses these receivers have. He throws great jump balls to Keon Coleman while utilizing Khalil Shakir in the underneath part of the field. Unless Allen turns it to another level during this second half of the season, he likely won’t win his 2nd MVP. However, I think Josh Allen and the Bills have their eyes set on a Super Bowl as opposed to another MVP. With wins over the Ravens and Chiefs early in the season, the Bills are on the right track.
3. Lamar Jackson
Season Stats: 7 Games, 1,442 yards, 15 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 68.0% comp%
Previous Ranking: 2
Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are still recovering from a slow start to the 2025 season that included Lamar missing time with a hamstring injury. The entire league knows how dangerous Lamar can be when he’s healthy, as he’s one of the most dangerous dual threat quarterbacks of all time. Due to the hamstring injury he has not been as dynamic as a rusher. This would have really hampered him early in his career but Lamar’s development as a passer helped prepare him for this. He now can operate the Raven’s offense with precision and accuracy. We’ve also seen Lamar dial back the turnovers in recent seasons. He’s done all this while averaging 10+ YPA the past two seasons, which highlights his growth as an NFL-caliber passer. Few quarterbacks can stretch the field with as much ease as Lamar. This Ravens’ offense is one of the most dynamic in the league when healthy. Lamar has not missed a beat as a passer and will only get more dangerous as his hamstring gets back to 100%. Similar to Josh Allen, Lamar has won his fair share of MVPs but is now after a ring and some playoff success.
4. Matthew Stafford
Season Stats: 10 Games, 2,557 yards, 27 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 66.0% comp%
Previous Ranking: 7
The Los Angeles Rams’ signal caller is a surprise to be ranked so highly halfway through the season. The 2025 offseason featured Matthew Stafford trade rumors and talk about a lingering back injury. So it’s safe to say Stafford leading the NFL in passing touchdowns midway through the season was not on my Bingo card. He returned to the Rams and his bionic back is stronger than ever. At 37 years old, Stafford still has elite arm talent but now adds the presence and intelligence of a seasoned veteran in his 17th season. He stills throw a beautiful football and is one of the NFL’s best at throwing off platform. His unique arm angles and no look passes are pure torture for opposing defensive backs. Stafford knows exactly where he wants to go before each snap while being able to improvise post snap. Whether it be giving one of his elite receivers a chance down the field or throwing to the empty area left by a blitzing defender, Stafford has made the right play nearly every time this season. The highlight of his 2025 so far was likely hitting Tutu Atwell for an 88 yard touchdown late in a game against the soaring Indianapolis Colts. Even worse for the league, pairing Davante Adams with Puka Nacua has only made Stafford’s life easier as he chases his first career MVP.
5. Justin Herbert
Season Stats: 11 Games, 2,691 yards, 19 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 66.5% comp%
Previous Ranking: 5
I have admitted to being a Justin Herbert fanboy/ Justin Herbert apologist before. So to say that I’m excited with how my glorious king has performed this season would be an understatement. The highlight of his season so far is probably his Week 1 performance against Kansas City. He threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns and iced the game with a scramble in the fourth quarter. Common sense says it’s probably a bad sign if Week 1 was a player’s best moment, but that’s not the case here. Herbert was just that elite during the opening week in Brazil. The Chargers have unfortunately been riddled with injuries to the offensive line and running backs, but Herbert’s performances have remained great. The Joe Alt injury hurts the most as Herbert is much more comfortable in the pocket when he can trust the left tackle position. While the pieces around Herbert may fluctuate, his skillset jumps off the screen each game. If you were to build a quarterback prospect in a lab, it would look similar to Justin Herbert. He has the size, strength, accuracy, pocket presence, and athleticism to be an all-time great. Now let’s see him get some playoff wins and continue to improve his game.
6. Joe Burrow
Season Stats: 2 Games, 189 yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, 58.3% comp%
Previous Ranking: 4
We got good news this week when Joe Burrow returned to practice from his turf toe injury. When healthy, Burrow is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and is almost unquestionably a Top 4-5 quarterback in the league. The only thing that has seemed to slow the former Heisman winner has been his health. When feeling his best, Burrow is deadly accurate and processes the game with ease. Combined with the dynamic duo of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Bengals offense is as potent as any in the league. Cincinnati has not matched the skill position players with a quality offensive line or defense to complement Burrow. That is unfortunately the same boat the Bengals find themselves in for 2025. Sitting at 3-7 without a clear picture for when Burrow will return, it’s not looking great for Cincinnati. I expect a few exciting games as the Bengals star gets some repetition through the back half of the season. The main goal for the remainder of this season will be for Burrow to return to 100% and for Cincinnati to build towards the 2026 season.
7. Dak Prescott
Season Stats:
Previous Ranking: 11
Don’t call it a comeback, but Dak is back. One of the most hated on quarterbacks finds himself easily within the Top 10 of this list. Dak Prescott has been playing fundamentally sound football so far this season. He progresses through his reads with ease, is mobile in the pocket, knows how to attack every coverage, and trusts his big play receivers to make plays down the field. Prescott operates the Cowboys’ offense with total control. He has truly developed into one of the most cerebral quarterbacks that we have in today’s NFL. Combining his football intelligence with ability is why he’s a quarterback that I love to watch. You rarely see Dak miss an opportunity down the field and he is always on the same page with stars CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. People might hate on Dak because he isn’t in the very top tier of quarterbacks, but there are 20+ other teams in the NFL that would kiss the ground if they could get Dak as their quarterback. Watching him operate this Dallas offense has been a joy so far in 2025.
8. Drake Maye
Season Stats: 11 Games, 2,836 yards, 20 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, 71.9% comp%
Previous Ranking: NR
We are watching the emergence of a star this season in New England. Drake Maye showed flashes of brilliance during his rookie season, but is on a completely different level in 2025. Like all young quarterbacks there is room for improvement. However, Maye has no glaring holes in his game. He is operating with pinpoint accuracy completing 71.9% of his passes through 11 weeks. Most impressively, not to sound like a Patriots hater, Maye is doing this without a star studded cast surrounding him. Don’t get me wrong, this roster is worlds ahead of the one New England had last year, but nobody is going to confuse this roster with the Eagles or Bills. Maye is fitting throws into tight windows while also throwing one of the best deep balls in the league. He has the athleticism to keep plays alive and operates the scramble drill masterfully. The only knock is that he sometimes takes unnecessary hits or forces passes while scrambling, but that is common for young quarterbacks. I am thrilled to see how Maye handles the pressure of playoff football as Boston celebrates having what they believe is their next Tom Brady.
9. Jordan Love
Season Stats: 10 Games, 2,421 yards, 15 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 67.7% comp%
Previous Ranking: 12
Jordan Love is one quarterback that is on the verge of stardom in this league. He has all the skills you want your franchise quarterback to have. Love is poised in the pocket, is accurate throwing to all levels, and is paired with an offensive guru in Matt LaFleur. Love’s ability to spread the ball around to the Packers’ plethora of pass catchers makes their offense even harder to stop. My favorite part about his game is how great Love is at avoiding sacks. The combination of his pocket mobility and getting rid of the ball quickly really benefits this offense. He has made the playoffs in each of his previous 2 seasons as a full time starter and is currently on pace to make it 3 straight seasons. What is preventing Jordan Love from taking that next step is the 2-3 head scratching plays he makes each game. These either come as wild interceptions or incredibly inaccurate passes. The frustrating part is that he plays mistake free football 90% of the game and then looks like a JV quarterback on plays that potentially sway the game. If Love eliminates these plays and LaFleur can open up his play calling, Green Bay will be a threat in the playoffs.
10. Baker Mayfield
Season Stats: 10 Games, 2,365 yards, 17 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 63.5% comp%
Previous Ranking: 10
This man in the reason the old fashioned gunslinger is still alive in the NFL today. Every Sunday, you know Baker is going to come out and fling the rock around for 3 hours. He is one of those quarterbacks that is always exciting to watch. Whether it be launching a deep ball for a touchdown or running over a defender for a first down, Baker has been must watch TV. Early on in the 2025 season, Baker Mayfield was one of the favorites to win MVP. This peaked when Baker outdueled Sam Darnold, imagine reading that 3 years ago, in a 38-35 Tampa Bay win. Mayfield threw for 379 yards and 2 touchdowns while completing 87.9% of his passes. Since this game, the Buccaneers and Baker have been up and down. The team has had a bounty of injuries while he has struggled with accuracy at times. Don’t get me wrong there are still been some gems over the last 4-5 games. They just haven’t matched that of his early season magic. One thing that has surprised me is the decrease in interceptions thrown by Mayfield this season. Through 10 games only 3 interceptions have been thrown, which is impressive for someone with a gunslinger mentality. My only hope is that Baker finds that early season form and those MVP chants return to Tampa Bay.
11. Jalen Hurts
Season Stats: 10 Games, 1,995 yards, 16 touchdowns, 1 interception, 66.9% comp%
Previous Ranking: 13
If you thought Dak was divisive as a quarterback, brace yourself for the Jalen Hurts debate. One side of the argument believes he is a Top 5-10 quarterback while the other would have you believe there are 25 or more quarterbacks that could win a Super Bowl with the current Eagles roster. I fall in the middle of this argument. On one hand, it’s pointless to hold the Eagles’ elite roster against Hurts. He thrives with the talent around him and proves he knows how to be complimentary of the elite skillsets in Philly. Hurts also throws a great go ball and is impactful as a scrambler. To make matters worse, being the catalyst of the “Tush Push” doesn’t help his popularity. On the other hand, Hurts’ limitations as a quarterback sometimes jump off the screen so he doesn’t quite fit into that elite category. This Eagles’ offense is much too talented to be having the struggles it has. Hurts is not free of blame here as he has had several games hovering around 50% completion percentage and/or less than 150 passing yards. In the end, Jalen Hurts is a proven winner that has performed under the brightest lights and has a Super Bowl ring and SBMVP to prove it. He might not be elite, but calling him a “Tush Push Merchant” is straight up disrespectful.
12. Jared Goff
Season Stats: 10 Games, 2,490 yards, 21 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 69.7% comp%
Previous Ranking: 6
The pure pocket passer is becoming an endangered species in today’s NFL. Jared Goff is here to prevent that from happening. Goff definitely lacks mobility in a league that relies on quarterbacks being able to perform off script when needed. He rarely throws an inaccurate pass and allows his receivers to gain yards after the catch. This might seem simple, but Goff is incredible at leading receivers on those intermediate passes over the middle that the Lions have thrived on in recent years. Goff has also grown tremendously in the offensive scheme that the Lions use, which has improved the intellectual portion of his game. He takes advantage of flawed defensive schemes and also has protected the ball better during his Lions tenure. With all of these positive aspects of Goff’s game, things seem to fall apart when he has to improvise. His lack of mobility and creativity is what prevents Goff from climbing into that elite level of quarterback. If teams can put pressure on Jared Goff, or make him uncomfortable, then the success of this Lions offense takes a hit. On the other hand, if the offense runs on schedule then the Lions are nearly impossible to stop.
13. Jayden Daniels
Seasons Stats: 6 Games, 1,184 yards, 8 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 62.5% comp%
Previous Ranking: 9
The term Sophomore slump is popular in the world of sports for a reason. No quarterback is experiencing that more in his second season than Jayden Daniels. To be completely fair to the Washington star, not all of the struggles are his fault. The Washington Commanders have been viciously hit by the injury bug and Daniels has already been injured twice this season. When he has been healthy, the accuracy and explosive rushing ability just simply aren’t where they were in 2024. With all that being said, I think Jayden Daniels will be just fine in the long term. It doesn’t matter whether that is later this season or if we don’t see him until 2026, he’ll be back with a vengeance. Daniels still has a high ceiling that demands the respect of opposing defenses due to his scrambling ability. The accuracy displayed during his rookie campaign is really what set him apart from other quarterbacks and what will need to return for him to reach his true potential. If he’s able to accurately make reads and deliver in 2026, I think we’ll be talking about Daniels as a borderline Top 5 quarterback again.
14. CJ Stroud
Seasons Stats: 8 games, 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, 66.5% comp%
Previous Ranking: 8
Sometimes the plane goes down and it isn’t the pilots fault. That’s the situation CJ Stroud finds himself in with the Houston Texans. After his rookie season it looked like Stroud was destined to become a star. Unfortunately these past two seasons have been filled with subpar performances from Houston play-callers and offensive linemen. Week after week it seemed like the game plan would fall apart and Stroud would be asked to save the day. Simply put, that is not a recipe for success for any young quarterback. Stroud is not immobile by any means, but he is most effective when operating from the pocket. While the team may be letting him down at times, Stroud still shows flashes from that incredible rookie season. He is cool under pressure and the intellectual portion of his game is improving with each repetition. Stroud excels when he is given time to go through his reads. In those situations, Stroud routinely picks apart opposing defenses and makes it look easy operating with pinpoint accuracy. The Texans front offense needs to do everything they can to pair Stroud with the right Offensive Coordinator and offensive line. If this offense can return to their 2023 form and combine with Houston’s ferocious defense, the league will be in trouble.
15. Sam Darnold
Seasons Stats: 10 games, 2,541 yards, 17 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 70.2% comp%
Previous Ranking: NR
Let’s start the final spot on this rankings by giving a round of applause for Sam Darnold. A few years ago the entire NFL had all but forgotten about him and now he’s a starting quarterback on a $100 million contract. Writing about Sam Darnold’s season directly following a 4 interception loss against the Rams isn’t ideal, but we’re not going to be victims of recency bias. So far, he is Top 10 in passing yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage. Darnold has been incredibly accurate this season completing 70.2% of his passes and forming a blossoming connection with star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. I’d be lying if I said part of his success wasn’t the system he’s playing in but a system can only do so much. Sam Darnold is excelling on play action passes this season and has been a beneficiary of an elite Seahawks defense. With all the success the journeyman quarterback has been having, the recipe to stop him remains the same. When defenses are able to put pressure on Darnold, he tends to make mistakes or be unable to avoid the pass rush. In order for Seattle to make a playoff run, and for Darnold to earn a second contract with the Seahawks, he’ll need to prove he can handle pressure and still operate with the accuracy that’s given him success so far this season.

There you have it, that’s our list approximately 50% of the way through the NFL season. There wasn’t a ton of changes at the top, but spots 4-15 featured a lot of movement for some of these NFL signal callers. I sadly had to leave a handful of quarterbacks off that are playing some great football in 2025. This exercise is truly so enjoyable for me so I can see which players have their stock rise versus fall. I would have loved to power rank some other positions, but your boy still works a 9-5 job. Keep clicking on my page and one day I might have some more free time. In all seriousness, thank you to anyone who reads this. I appreciate each and every one of you.
